Chapter Notes - Nutrition in Animals Class 7 Notes | EduRevNCERT Solutions for Class 9th: Ch 5 The Fundamental Unit

Digestion is the process of breaking the insoluble and large food molecules into soluble and minute molecules. In amoeba, the food vacuoles are transported deeper into the cell and with the help of the digestive enzymes, the large insoluble particles are broken down to the simplest molecules Amoeba is a holozoic and protozoan. The digestion is intracellular as it is a unicellular organism. The food taken remains in a food vacuole or gastric vacuole formed by the cell membrane and a bit of the cytoplasm. The vacuoles are transported deeper into the cells by cytoplasmic movements. Here they fuse with lysosomes that contain enzymes.

The digestion process can be describes as : 1. Ingestion- Amoeba moves towards the food by making pseudopodia. The pseudopodia surround the food particle and fuse to form the food vacuole, which is then taken inside the cytoplasm Digestion in amoeba is intracellular taking place within the cell. The food taken in remains in a food vacuole or gastric vacuole formed by the cell membrane and small part of the cytoplasm. The vacuoles are transported deeper into the cells by cytoplasmic movements. Here they fuse with lysosomes that contain enzymes Ingestion: Amoeba takes in its food through this process. Initially, it pushes out its pseudopodia so that it can encircle the food. After this, it engulfs the food, thus forming a bag-like structure called food vacuole. The process is known as phagocytosis. Digestion: This step follows ingestion. The food vacuoles are rich in various. Class 10 Science: In this Article, we will study steps in the process of 'Nutrition in Animals' eg.Nutrition in Amoeba, and Nutrition in Paramecium. Animals cannot make their own food (heterotrophs), hence they depend on other organisms (plants and other animals) for their food Other organisms, such as amoeba exhibit another form of digestion called phagocytosis. Here, the organism, usually a single-celled organism, uses its plasma membrane to engulf food particles, consequently giving rise to an internal component. Once inside, the food particles are broken down and absorbed

Answer : Similarity between nutrition in Amoeba and human beings: Both Amoeba and humans require energy for the growth and maintenance of their bodies The amoeba encloses the food with the help of its pseudopodia. It then consumes the food by the procedure of phagocytosis. The food vacuoles of amoeba have digestive enzymes which break the food into simpler materials. This procedure is well-known as digestion. The processed food is immersed in the cytoplasm leaving the undigested constituents.
